Final decisions...

As the degree show draws nearer I have to narrow down what I want to display. I have one set of pots glazed and finished and will be photographing them soon. The rest are going through the kilns and will appear here asap.

A bit of madness...

These are some experiments I tried in my quest to be iconoclastic.

Happy accident...

When two of my pots fell I became a bit more adventurous and less precious and what you see below stemmed from the fall. These are just test pieces so I hope to make a much larger group for the degree show which I feel will have a greater impact that a small group.  The only drawback is that if anything happens one in the kiln or otherwise, I will have to remake the whole group. Fingers crossed!!!

See through...

 

I decided to line up the pots and cut holes this time from side to side rather than from front to back as I had previously done. Usually, I would have inserted clay tubes into the holes but I felt the new direction made a great difference especially now that the pots can be aligned and the viewer can see through from the first to the last pot. I'm really happy with this development.

 

Golden Ratio...

As my pots were slightly clumsy looking, I began to research the Golden Ratio.  This 'theorem' was used by the greeks in design.  I now use it to determine the dimensions of my pots which I now throw in three seperate pieces and then join.  I think it has made a huge difference to the overall look.

A new way of seeing...

The vessels below started out as crafted utilitarian objects which have since adopted aspects of art/sculpture. The holes are puncturing the status of the vessel and by displaying the pots in multiples, they form their own narrative with regard to interior/exterior negative space.
